I remember when the standard was to stack the 3x4's w/o any 2way passive's. Eagle Aspen had instructions on stacking in the switch box. I installed a MDU that very way and to my knowledge they haven't had a problem. Of course, they still only have to use a round dish. I have since moved to a different location which requires the triple sat dish and I haven't had a situation that requires more than once 4x8 to date.
