Are the spikes at 6 mhz apart or so? I have known (Gainmaker) to show problems on input and when you pull all the pads its still there which means the prob is before. I have seen bad cable do this but would not cause bad sweep or low levels. Hope this helps. You just have to go where it is good and work your way down till you find the bad location.
