Well its obvious you are a wealth of knowledge. One can surely make money doing this stuff. My main issue is the trend of rates going down. The number of quality companies to work for seem to shrink. You can be making good money today, but chances are in a year or so you will be asked to perform that exact same work for much less. On the sat side, we are seeing the work of the largest company being pushed towards the HSPs. We all know how many of them operate. Although this does not represent all the work on the sat side, it represents a large percentage, and something tells me whatever DTV does, DISH will soon follow.
People think Im one sided and only respect certain type of comments. So I want to say that I have learned much from people who dont agree with me. The biggest thing being that, MSOs on the cable side and Platform providers, are much to blame and not just the middle man. People here have convinced me that the middle companies do care. IN regards to pay, many times your hands are tied. I have been convinced that if some could pay more, they would.
The companies who negotiate with the Comcasts and DTV of the bizz are forced to pretty much take what ever they are offered. Although this is unfortunate, it stills has a negative effect on me, the installer. Thats why I would like to see installers take action that will seperate install commisions from sales and contract- management commisions. Let us lift that burden off of you, and deal straight with them. As workers we are in more of a position to succeed. As companies, you are limited in what you can do in this type of scenario.
Hopefully in a few months I will no longer be in this position and will be able to actually go back to enjoying not only the work I do, but the enviroment I work in, and having future that has more chances of being, what I deem, a bright one.
