Re: Union

And the pay and treatment of the cable/sat non union guy isnt a joke?

I want to remind people of a few things:

The most you would end up paying is about $100/month union dues. $25/ week. HSPs get something like 100/25. Thats $125 for a 2 room install. The best paid HSP installer with a POV gets 70/20. Im estimating high on that 70/20. Thats $90 for a 2 room. You are missing out on $35 PER JOB, even higher if you do a job with a DVR. That 100/25 is alloted for the install. MAny of you are paying $400-$500 a month to these companies. Much higher than union dues.

You dont pay dues until your union has obtained a signed contract that has been approved and ratified by us, the members. Its costs $0 to organize. Its costs $0 to have your contract negotiated. You only begin to pay once you have a contract that the MEMBERS APPROVE.

If you agree to organize and you get a contract, but as time goes on you are not happy with the representation you are getting. You can choose to de-certify the union. You can vote them out, just like you voted them in. Theres nothing that makes you "stuck" with a union. This is what helps keep unions working hard for you. Checks and balance.

How some people report that they worked in a small union shop for years and years under bad union representation is very odd. Its like they were under an evil regime or something. Small units are MUCH EASIER to decertify, compared to national bargaining units. If they were so bad why didnt they just de-cert the union?
