You know, its not about unions. Its about getting treated with some respect. Its about being able to work in an enviroment where one is not treated like a 3rd world citizen. When these things happen it effects ALL tradesmen in the trade. No matter if you THINK you are self employed or an employee, when ways to lower price of labor are found, they hurt us all who perform the labor.
They are able to pacify many of us by letting us call ourselves self employed. You are from Chicago also. When I was looking to contract in cable I could not believe they actually wanted you to report to work everyday like an employee. Theres a company on Pulaski and I-55 that wanted you there at 6 AM to sit around and wait for the jobs to passed out. You call that selfemployed??? All of them were the same. A bunch of BS. Damn at least the in house get paid to sit around in the garage, they get the so called contractors to do it for free.
