The thought was to use the line extender as a power amplifer to drive the RF output of the modulator to maybe a watt or so for Amateur TV. (Cable channels 59 & 60 lie in the amateur "ham" radio band.. 430 MHz --> 450 MHz.)
Amateur radio operators use this band for video conferencing over the air using NTSC video and audio. Broadcasting in the conventional sense is strictly prohibited under FCC rules in the amateur radio bands.
The trouble most hams have is amplifing their amateur tv signals. Most radio amplifiers are non-linear, which can cause problems with a video signal. The line extenders are a linear Class A amplifier, which led me to examine them.
It looks like I was "close but no cigar."
