I did both. Inside out was my preference, except on brick, concrete block etc. Used cordless DeWalt, and corded 1/2 inch when needed. What ever was faster and easier was my motto. But you all are right, you better know what you're doing to go from the outside in. Why burn out your cordless drill trying to drill through the middle of hard brick when you can go through the mortar joint from the outside in?
