I have seen the TiVo based DVR and I have seen Dish Network's DVR. They are as different as night and day. This is a desparate attempt by TiVo to get as much power over the DVR based systems as possible.
I prefer Dish's DVR over TiVo, myself. A friend of mine had a 721 reciever and you could change channels and wouldn't lose the stored date from the other channel. I also understand that Dish has some DVR's that they don't charge an extra fee on, sweet! I don't care for Dtv's DVR near as much as when it was TiVo based, though.
