I've always been partial to using the Bird Dog with a DiSH legacy single LNB. That way, I don't have to sweat the switch configurations or worry about overcurrent issues. I know what slot I'm on and what bird I got.
Of course, if you don't like swapping LNBs, you can always put your hand in front of the LNB on the slot that the BD is identifying as your bird. This way, you know what LNB your bird is coming in on. Not really a problem in most places but I cut my teeth on DiSH in a market where the skew was 89/90 and you could catch either bird through either eye.
