Re: Start Up Construction Business

I can help you but you need to crunch your numbers yourself.
are you buying a truck cash or financing?
do you have trained employees or temps?
how long is your payout? (30 days is norm)
how much capital do you have banked?
do you have prices? (contractor rates in print)
hve you worked this project before as inhouse?

take your dailys ( I hope you save them) from the last 3 months
as inhouse and figure out your pay as contractor. Minus out a competitive wage for your help(grunts, flaggers, etc). Minus out your gas(I hope you saved receipts). This will give you a weekly
number. Multiply your weekly number by4.3 to get a monthly cost. Figure in your monthly expenses(tools, insurance, rents).
Do a 3 month analysis, preferrably on a spreadsheet, of all your monthly numbers. Figure in a rainyday fund for truck repairs and downtime. Don't forget a quarterly tax payment!! Please. Then get busy with your calculator and INs minus OUTs =margin. It depends on your project but 10% is way too low, you won't get a
loan. Make the numbers work for you and good luck. Glad to help if I can. Chris Breen, owner, Old Line Construction Inc. 8562070541
