He is correct there is nothing that will protect from a direct hit. Only thing a good ground will do is protect or reduce damage from a secondary hit or surge. More grounding locations sometimes works but also moving your bonding locations works also. If one piece of equipment keeps getting hit and its bonded try disconnecting that bond and placing bonds around it at other poles. If your worried about something like a headend location in a very sandy poor ground area this is something you can try but its a reoccuring fix (you have to do it before every storm) Dig out about a foot around all your ground rods on your headend building to about a foot deep. Pour rock salt into the hole around the ground rods and then wet it. This will create a better bond temporarily. (Old Army commo trick to get grounding to work)

But a direct hit is just that A DIRECT HIT. Nothing can fully protect against what God can throw at ya.
Of course that's just my opinion.... I could be wrong
