you have a lot of sand down there and that does not make for a good ground. you will need to add some more rods out there.
also nothing much slows down lighting. I have seen it jump all the 1 amp and larger fuses. It will run until it reaches resistances, it also does not like to turn 90% so your ground should be as straight and short as you can get it.
