How can anyone be proud of working for free?

This business has always had a lot of losers, but if you were good, you could make $2000 staying home, and $4000 being a gypsy any week of the year.

Is that true today? Nobody started this job because of the glory, or fame, or benefits, or reputation, or opportunity for advancement, or any stupid lofty ideal like putting a stupid wire on a pole.

We wanted to make money. And we did. We made a lot of money. That's why we work, for the money. Hey, where f*** did the money go?

Who the hell was the first bonehead installer/splicer who agreed to fix the last hack's work for free? Way to 'get'er done'. You screwed the rest of us because you were too much of a wimp to say no. You got raped.

When you "do the right thing" you're being taken advantage of. Primes look for subs who won't turn down work, it lets them scrape off the good work for themselves or their crack-dealing buddies/ qc jerks.
Oh, sorry, I meant "in-house supervisors/project coordinator" or whatever the title of the month is for the guy who takes the day's best work and then spends his time crawling up the other installer's behinds.

But I'm sure you take pride in your work.

You don't have be the jerk who says no at 5:00, or the ass-kissing yes man. Either way when the work is gone so are you. At least keep your dignity becasue if they don't need you, you wouldn't even be there.
