Thats 1 way to look at it. But you must realize not every employee is an 8-11 hr job. There are cable employees making 20+ an hour.
Surely you arent suggesting that dish and dtv arent already seeing their installs sub, sub, sub, and resubbed to where an illegally classified contractor is now doing there installs for 60 bucks and dropping.
Many people are a little jumpy. The thought of their little illegal empires being shut down is not a pretty thought. They are really offended that it has come out their businesses use a fraudulent business model.
Unionizing seems to be the right thing to do here. Companies cant pay well AND obey the law. They feel if they obey the law they will be not be forced to demand more from primes,msos, and DTV,instead they say they will be forced to cut pay. The way things are now structured they may be correct, so maybe its time to restructure things. The day installers in this business decide to finally say "no more" the right changes will come. DTV, DISH, and cable MSOs dont seem to care their work is subbed 3 or 4 times out. The companies who get work from the primes and hsps dont seem to want to demand more money. So maybe its time for them to step aside and let our unions negotiate our rates with the big boys and let all the sub companies negotiate their own SEPERATE admin contract.
Dont think it could be done? They need us as much as we need them. They already know this, its the installer that doesnt seem to realize this. When/if the day comes we as a group realize this things will get better. So lets get it done!
