I am using SA11 + SA111 gear. I have both Thermal and Agc"s . The thermals range 3-9db. What is the proper set up for the thermals? I know to duplicate my manual levels when using the Agc's. Also which ground spring is the one that causes all the trouble when my Agc's act up, the top that presses against the cover or the side spring? Thirdly a lot of the techs here don't use all of the screws in all when putting the cover back on, will this cause any response problems????
Hey, it is best to turn the thermal or manual eqs all the way to 9 and then back off a db, if you pull up a sweep at the amp and turn it down to low you will see how the response works and will note that it causes a smile if turned down to much, I see a lot of systems that dont use cable simulators and this causes the inputs to some amps to have a reverse tilt and then the tech sets up the interstage eq to low to get there proper tilt., causing distortions etc, esp if there are more le.s in cascade.
as far as the agcs, yes all of those, the reason the ags act up is usually due to crappy ground. some use aligator clips to the ground straps and then to a screw on the inside of the housing, but nothing is worse than loose screws on the cover. usually if a tech uses an electric screwdriver they get stripped and just 1 stripped screw can cause distortions and problems that go away when the housing is opened., when the wind blows the agc tends to lose good ground and you have all sorts of intermitant problems. remember good grounding is what these amps are all about.......!
the ags are not very reliable, however if they are your amps you gotta make the best of them, just make sure everything has a proper ground. the clips on the back of the modules, where they seat in the seizure screw, check them as well. loose or flat clips cause many problems. anyway just a few thoughts.
