Construction. Father Jorge Mas Canosa took control of Church & Tower construction firm in 1968. Son Jorge Mas Santos changed the name to MasTec and went public in 1997. A specialist in laying cable, the company benefited from the cable TV boom, fiber optic telecommunications, and an acquisitions spree. MasTec is the only Hispanic-owned company to trade on the NYSE.
