Re: cable cards

I am in a system that also uses motorola cable cards. I have a few questions to ask you first: Is your controller in the headend a motorola DAC? In the billing system (CSG) or (ACSR) is the cable card built correctly? We currently changed our cable card types in the billing system and found that HD would tile if the card was entered into the billing system incorrectly as an old code; example: card was a type CA and we switched it to a CG along with a few other small changes when adding the card into your inventory. You must make sure that your warehouse personnel correctly adds new cards into your system or your DAC will not talk to your card correctly and the decryption will be corrupted.

The next thing you always need to do is treat a cable card as you would a set top box. As you know in systems with 256 quam downstreams you need to pay attention to your MER / BER or you will experience the cliff effect. With digital transmission at 256 quam you usually need atleast 0 dbmv and above to properly run your set top without experiencing some form of tiling / freeze frame. We found that it is critical to make sure that you have signals within your system/FCC specifications hitting the back of this set with the cable card.
