Check that $5 per flat wire and they are only used when their is no other option. I also educate the customer on the nature of flat wire adapters. I offer them a discount on a replacement and make them aware of all responsabillities.
Besides, marketing is all a part of the deal here. With the gas prices throught he f***ing roof, a tech has to do what he can to make ends meet. Why go out and give your experience and expertise away, it costs us to gain it.
Ultimately, sales such as these are dictated by the situation. I may charge $75 for a wallfish or I may charge $50. The customer has the right to decline, and the company has the right to step up and pay for that customers wallfish. But remember, don't sale yourselves too short!
I have converted quite a few ex-cable customers who would have paid the cableguy to program the remote to work the TV and leave them a manual on the cable box and remote, but that's a different story.
