Most instrument for return sweep need a head end equipment. For forward sweep you can use each TV signal as reference for sweeping. The best unit for me is the TRILITHIC 860-DSPi, it does every thing require to read and analyze QAM signal, sweep forward and return, does C/N, CTB-CSO ect. It is also equipped with a which you can actually read UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD internet speed and check the customer INTERNET connection. For return sweep it requires a 9581-SST located at the HE, when equipped with this unit, it can can read and see INGRESS for anywhere on the system. I know lost of people like the WAVETEK unit, but I believe it has now been pass by this new TRILITHIC instrument.
