In lieu of the “PDA” acronym I’ve been involved with WFM/PC’s i.e, Work Force Management – Laptops. You may also recognize the term “Hammerhead”. Via cellular triangulation or GPS - depending upon the method’s engine this unit transmits and receives billing software derived work orders, captures customer’s signatures (Similar to the UPS delivery guy/gal), and provides asset location for dispatching/routing purposes. An additional feature is to link the technician & vehicle to the computerized stock quantities (Min-max) on hand. Has anyone ever been dispatched a job (Sometime after you have left the office) that you couldn’t complete because you did not have the CPE or fear of missing the OTG? This targeted unit can also provide real time data to the dispatching group to best dispatch the closest personnel with available time to complete the job, and to poll whether or not you have the correct CPE. Ah, talk about proficiency. It’s been in use (In emerging forms and markets) for at least 10 years.
