more of a continuity test. if you've got continuity from the pin to the housing = you've got a short. If you remove a face plate downstream and check for continuity up or down stream you can eliminate the direction of the short hence the reason for starting in the middle of the run (divide and conquer). once you eliminate the short in that direction go to the middle of the one still showing continuity and do the same. A pain in the butt but it'll get 'er done!
