bird dog first off why would you talk to a team lead about becoming a sub thats not their job to say ya its greener on that sid eof the fence,its there job to keep you as a inhouse tech,and if you were already driving 300 mile days that more than all my guy drive here in MN.Ive been up here 8 months now and never have I or my guys driven 300 plus in a day,I personally went to LITTLE FALLS MN. and never drove over 200 miles but was making on average $400 days you see the big difference between you and summit and I is you look at this as a job but the way summit and I look at it this is our career and we take it very serios and do what it takes to make a good living. i could be working in the area where i live in IL. but they pay is crap and hey I dont mind seeing the country you only have 1 life as you said yourself why not make it the best that you can.
