Although a union may sound like a good idea at first, in the long run it is a losing proposition. Try some courses in contract law. A mistake that we dogs make, is signing contracts that are not worth the paper they are written on. Look at some contracts that carpenters, electricians, or masons use. They run into some of the same **** that we encounter. Another mistake we make, is not following through with litigation, because of the cost, and time involved. Lawyers are never fun, but sometimes the only answer to unsrupulous contractors who don't want to pay. Ex-union and proud of it.
