I have been burying underground for about 1 year and I have worked in the underground industry for the last 12 years. One thing I have noticed over the years is that contractors come and go and usually when they decide to go, everyone that works for them gets the shaft. I learned that first hand about 3 months ago when the contractor I was subbing for up and left with 3 weeks of pay for 5 independent contractors. Ouch!! I can say without a doubt that I went out every day on every job and gave 100%. Some days I lost my butt because of piece work but other days I made out pretty good. So in this case it was just a Company that managed their finances very poorly and skated out of town with 3 weeks pay for everyone to start up somewhere else. Fortunately for me I had the resources to start up my own company and pick up where they left off. Unfortunately, I lost a few of the good guys because they were scared out of the industry because they got burnt.
