Equipment Tracking

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of what programs contractors are using to track digit converters, modems, etc., into their warehouse and then out to an employee. We are having problems with lost equipment and we need to put a stop to it. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
