I am not knocking the chute at all. I learned with one, but like you said, everyone has their own way of setting up, and I have found nothing wrong with carpet. It actually works quite well. For a guy to kick someone off the job for using it, just doesn't sound right. Sounds like he hadn't had much experience in the field. You definitely will not find using carpet for a setup in any construction manual, but I have seen a lot of improvising that got the job done and done right. Take care and be safe.
