Seriously (here anyway, wherever you are your mileage may vary) you can be charged with unlawful restraint, assault, or any number of other things unless you place the person under citizens arrest and read him/her their rights. It doesn't happen often, but all it takes is a really slimy lawyer and the right judge.
That said, I'm really glad that people are starting to do this kind of thing more often. I don't want mob violence, but I'm tired of people running around doing whatever they please with no repercussions and if the law making bodies in the US refuse to do anything about it, then it's time we did.
