Key thing is to set your guardbands on the headend unit around any freq's with return traffic on them, match your field unit's forward and reverse pilots with the headend unit, and use the lowest sweep level you can while keeping a stable sweep in "raw" mode. We use 15dBmV (plus IP) for our equipment (about 3dB below peaks of the return carriers).
