UK science and technology research company, QinetiQ and US broadband service provider, dataBahn have revealed work that their two firms have been engaged on over the past year to develop low cost "pop up" satellite antennas. These will provide cost effective broadband connectivity for a wide range of global connectivity applications.

The two companies' auto-aligning robotic satellite antenna platforms will provide data connections of up to 2Mbps for "paused" mobile users. These users include those operating vehicles for leisure or recreational purposes as well as emergency vehicle operators, disaster recovery and border patrol. Industries to which this technology will be of interest include oil and gas, transportation, building construction, exploration and homeland security.

Ted Lindsley, Founder & CEO of dataBahn, Inc. said: "We selected QinetiQ as a strategic alliance on this project during the Satellite 2004 show because of its proven track record in satellite communications for the UK Ministry of Defence and NATO. The Satellite 2004 show in Washington DC was a terrific medium for evaluating potential alliances and we are excited to be returning this year with so many exciting developments."

Andrew Cheer, Commercial Director, QinetiQ Communications Division said: "We are very pleased with this exciting partnership as QinetiQ is tasked with driving forward our military derived technology into the commercial market place and we need strong partners for this. With their extensive dealer network and ambitious business plans dataBahn are exactly the type of company we are keen to be working with."

dataBahn plans to introduce these auto-aligning robotic solutions during Summer 2005 in the United States and will co-ordinate sales, service, installation and support through its nationwide network of more than 325 GVF Certified dealers and installers. The company will also distribute the antennas through other channels on a global scale for use on Ka and Ku satellites outside the United States.

Combined with the next generation DOCSISĀ® based satellite broadband services dataBahn recently introduced across North America, the mobile solutions are expected to far exceed any mobile Internet services solutions in their market class today and at price points attractive to both Consumers and Commercial users.
