return pilot feature for sunrise telecom meter

How does the return pilot generator work for the sinrise telecom meter?

I know it injects signal into the return but do I need another meter on the other end to check it?

Do I set up the meter for our return or another frequency in the return that we dont use?

If I set it to the same return frequency as our modems when I inject will it knock our modems on the street offline?

I have this and other features on this meter that no co-worker I have asked knows how to use. I think it would be very helpfull to know how all the features of my meter work when troubleshooting cable modem problems. Right now we just plug up and messure dowstream and wait till the meter locks in and goes online like with a modem to see return.
