DSL and Cable modems use different settings on the computer. Have you went to internet options and made sure the "never dail a connection" tab is checked? Go into the LAN settings and make sure there is nothing checked there, if there are gateway numbers in the LAN settings delete them.

You may have to go in and delete the TCP/IP stack and rebuild it to get the computer to mate with the cable modem.
