Re: Some other career V. Cable Industry

Mr. ellison is definately correct, cable is still a good field-mostly if you are a contractor. My friend Paul just started his own install etcetera company with TW and his installers still puch 1200 a week. Being in satelite for the last 8 years, I've given up on that ship and have decided to go elsewhere. Me, Im considering under welding. But I turned my starving staff over to my friend so they could sustain the mouths they have to feed. This busuness is good and not cyclical as satellite can be.
My contractor (former) in New Mexico makes a KILLING off of customizing home theater and surround sound. He sells it all-right from home and has pointed at least a dozen websites towards me that will train you to sell thier product. He just got back from 1 job in Colorado where he sold 6 $400 remotes and a couple hundred to program it all. Several times a year he will find a ten or twelve grand job just from referrals.
Telco is quickly moving into the television industry. Might wanna take a look at learning to work with VOIP. Vonnage and other companies use this.
Wireless/microwave is making a BIG impact in the internet market with good speeds and lower costs to xtmrs than many competitors.
Learning it all is the key, and if I knew it all today I might still stay the heck away from it all
. I started climbing poles for telco 15 years ago and went to cable construction. then this and that.
so, YEA-there are plenty of opportunities and good people out there-and the right company wont judge ya for NOT knowing it all and would probably rather train you.
good luck.
