1999 SMALL BUSINESS LOAN thru:
The New Bedford Economic Development Council has taken action on 13 small business loans under its Capital Access Program and Micro-Enterprise Loan Fund, two programs intended to assist businesses with five or fewer employees at the time of application.

The CAP Loan Program enables the NBEDC to provide loans of up to $5,000 while the Micro-Enterprise Loan Fund enables the NBEDC to provide loans up to $15,000 for working capital; start-up costs; equipment; machinery; furnishings and other fixed assets; and to assist in the acquisition of land and buildings.

Mayor Frederick M. Kalisz, Jr. said the loan programs impact not only the small businesses who apply, but the local economy as a whole. "These 13 loans, which have already closed or been approved by the New Bedford Economic Development Council, total $530,000 and have the direct effect of creating approximately 50 to 60 new jobs and the retention of another 65 to 75 jobs. Additionally, these loans have leveraged more than $ 2 million in private dollars into these projects."
