From what I have seen of Union employees they are the ones who do not want to work or want to cut all the corners and get the union to protect them, A true tech who does quality work and carries his or her own work load would have no reason for a union. If you do the job and do it well you should have no problem getting work and getting paid well for it.
Just my thought of unions this is from a tech who has been around 20+ years and I have never had a problem finding work or collecting what was owed me. I stand behind what I do 110%. and even now that I have an in house position (to cut down on travel and to spend time with my family) I still have old customers calling and wanted me to do work for them, and are willing to pay to make to make it worth my time to do the work.
