1897 – Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Inc., originated in 1897 when Bert Stroh constructed a grounded telephone circuit on poles along a pipeline between his home and a neighbor's in Centermoreland, PA. His efforts resulted in the Centermoreland Telephone Company.
1905 – Centermoreland Telephone Company merged with the Northern Lackawanna Telephone Company and created Commonwealth Telephone Company
1950 – Luzerne Telephone Company, Bradford Telephone Company and Commonwealth Telephone Company merged into a surviving corporation to be known as Commonwealth Telephone Company.
1978 – As a result of deregulation, Commonwealth Telephone Company formed a subsidiary company, Commonwealth Telephone Technologies Corporation
1986 – Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Inc., changed its name to C-TEC Corporation.
1987 – C-TEC Corporation restructured its operating companies into five business groups: telephone, CABLE television, mobile services, information services and communications services.
1992 – C-TEC Properties, Inc., a subsidiary of C-TEC Corporation, committed to invest up to $3.5 million in Northeast Networks, Inc.,
1993 – It was announced that the controlling shareholders of C-TEC Corporation had entered into an agreement to sell their stock holdings in C-TEC to RCN Corporation, a Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc., subsidiary.
1994 – C-TEC sold its cellular properties to Independent Cellular Network, Inc.
1995 – C-TEC purchased 40 percent of Megacable, Mexico's second largest cable television operator, for approximately $84 million in cash.
1997 – C-TEC Corporation completed a corporate restructuring and was split into three stand-alone companies: 1) RCN Corporation, comprising C-TEC Cable’s holdings in all states except 1997 and certain Commonwealth Long Distance customers;2) Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Inc., comprising Commonwealth Telephone Company, Commonwealth Communications, epix® Internet Services, Commonwealth Telecom Services, Inc. (later known as CTSI), and certain Commonwealth Long Distance customers; and 3) Cable Michigan, comprising C-TEC Cable’s holdings in Michigan and its ownership stake in Mercom.
1998 Level 3 Sold its 129 Million $ investment in CTEC’s network in Michigan
Commonwealth Telephone Company, the nation’s seventh largest publicly held independent local exchange carrier
CTSI, LLC, a local exchange carrier operating in competitive markets outside Commonwealth Telephone Company’s territory, that formally commenced operations in 1997.
