New 1.2 DataBahn

Member Uploaded Image

dataBahn, Inc., today announced the introduction of next-generation Broadband Internet Services across all of North America that are available immediately for businesses and consumers needing connectivity in remote, underserved areas. The dataBahn service offerings deliver up to 30 times more capacity than consumer satellite products like Direcway or Starband, but at pricing that is a fraction of commercial competitors like Tachyon or iDirect. This market positioning allows dataBahn to engage the majority of customers who are unsatisfied with consumer level offerings via satellite but cannot afford or justify the expense of commercial, bandwidth-on-demand alternatives.

Part of the strategy driving dataBahn's new broadband offering is a revolutionary modem platform leveraging the DOCSISĀ® design standard that was originally developed by Cable Labs Corporation for DSL and Cable modems. The modem is capable of the same performance as expensive rack mounted alternatives but at a fraction of the cost for equipment. Despite the low price this compact modem, which looks like a typical cable modem, can handle VPN, VoIP or SIP telephony and even 2-way video conferencing.

Coupled to the new modem platform is the newest satellite ground station architecture leveraging far more efficient data carriage and switching capability than previously available in this class of service. This has been combined with satellite bandwidth that limits the number of simultaneous users rather than allowing too many users on the same transponder at one time. "Because our network is far less populated than other consumer-level satellite providers and our new technology is far more efficient at carrying data, we can deliver a much greater user experience at a lower cost", said Rory Eddings, Director of Technology and Training.
In a surprise announcement to the industry, dataBahn is the first Broadband Service Provider to begin deploying the next-generation DOCSISĀ® based solution across all of North America. The company has a nationwide network of nearly 70 exclusive VAR distributors and more than 300 GVF certified installers in the field to coordinate sales, installation, service and warranty issues. "The consumer satellite industry operates with a fragmented distribution channel that isolates the customer and creates confusion about who should service hardware, services or warranty claims. We are changing this and setting a new example by ensuring that the entire experience from initial order and installation to ongoing services and support are coordinated exclusively by our own team", said Mark Goff, President and COO.
