There are building codes, and there are industry codes.
Check with Code Enforcement on Building codes in your area.
Other words of advice is to
1. Buy quality materials
2. Check, recheck and triple check before drywall goes up
3. Do not cross power lines with your other wiring
4. Get a copy of the plans and mark your work on it
5. Protect your wiring from drywallers(use nail plates)
6. Use conduit if you can, so you can pull replacements if needed
7. Take pictures before drywall goes up
8. Keep in mind, people always move funiture (enough locations)
