Sorry to say but I've been in this so called CATV business for some 38 years. When the MSO's put out a standard rate that they are going to pay contractors there is no competitive bidding involved. Today's rates being paid by MSO/RBOC are what we use to get 10 years ago but maybe you haven't been around that long. Most prime's pull their profits off the top instead of starting at the bottom giving a fair pay to his workers. It's not competitive bidding when 15-20 contractors show up at a pre bid meeting walking away knowing who is going to get the contract before the bids are even reviewed. The only reason cheap labor jobs attracts good prime contractors is because there is not much work out there other than RBOC. Once the workers and the primes find other opportunites, they will be gone, hopefully the Client will THEN offer better rates. I would think that we are both right, but times are changing, unit rate pay will be replaced with hourly workers. Thanks for the input.
