no need, was told this by several comcast and knology managers. if that was the case, then the cable companies would take the boxes when they did the discos.
now, if the customer still has cable(like for local channels), then you cannot mess in the box, but if the customer is switching completely over to cable, then the box is open territory. the other exception is when it is an MDU box, then the cable co owns the lines.
