I work for a MSO that has created a book(20 pages or so) , of procedures for doing plant maintenance and splicing. It is a pain in the neck to get worked completed on time. So we do as much prep work as we can without shutting down the plant the day before. I actually work on 3rd shift permanently now.
So sweeping is allowed as long as you do not need to take the plant down. Basically reference node and check EOL to see if in spec, if not in spec then set up maint ticket to sweep run on third shift. Tracking ingress to active is allowed, but once you find the problem in the tap string a ticket must be set up to check drops and remove taps ect.
We have a Operation Center that monitors the plant 24hrs a day. The minute the plant loses RF continuity or falls out of range it triggers an alarm back to the center. At that point they dispatch Maint Techs to investigate what is going on. A lot of times we are out on sight before customers even see a problem.
