That all sounds real nice, and it should be that way, but this is the real world. It's supply and demand. There is a shortage of work, and a lot of splicers looking for it. You can demand more money all you want. There will always be someone to do it for less. Quality means nothing anymore. MSO's are run by bean counters now.
