Theives are smart, sometimes even smarter than the CATV Personnel. So how do you stop a cable thief? Simple, Be smarter than the thief. In my years of rebuilds Ive seen a lot of clever tactics used by the cable thief. I guess the best one ive seen is where he drilled out a locking terminator and jb welded the fitting to it with a long stinger sealed with polyurethene( I caught this one doing face plate c/o job in Kansas). I would take a piece of lashing wire and shove it through the middle of the drop causing a direct short therefore causing their entire drop to be shorted. If a system really wants to stop piracy of cable theft they can with addressable systems, but that cost money and we sure would nt want to upset the shareholder would we. Bottom line is you get what you pay for.
