equalize voltage puts a higher than normal charge voltage to the series batteries to try to bring the charge level to the same voltage on all batteries. float voltage is the standard charge voltage.
unless you force the charging circuit to "equalize" and wait a while you won't really get an accurate reading for this. all we worry about is the float voltage, which just makes sure the batteries will be charged when needed.
