Re: satellite receivers and phone jacks

First things first. A phone line is not required by Direct TV for an activation. The only one that might be requiring it is the install contractor that you are working for. When I do an install, if there is a phone jack within 25 ft., I hook the phone line up. If not, I explain to the customer the purpose of the phone line hooked to the IRD and if they want one installed, I quote the price for doing one and let them make that choice. There are a lot of people that no longer even have a hard line telephone, they just have cell service. What, those people can't have DTV? That's why the question is asked at activation when your putting the equipment on the acct. Alot of contractor's out there are taking a percentage of that charge when installer's are adding these phone lines, ie, more profit for them.
