Re: satellite receivers and phone jacks

All satellite receivers are required to have a phone line. If no phone line is connected to the receiver, it is grounds for a legitimate chargeback of the installation fee. Some companies have chargeback policies designed to do no more than try to get something for nothing from their installers. I despise this, but no phone line on an install cannot be defended.

To try to make it easier for you: I have worked in both cable and satellite. A cable drop is always attached to the house at the same location as the electric service, ergo the same location as the telephone service. Try to get used to mounting the dish at the same location (keep a safe clearance from electric). If you do this, the telephone demarc (as well as the ground) is close enough that you can run a phone line along with the coax.

There are sources for "siamese" coax/twisted pair (RG-6 coax fused to twisted-pair telephone wire). If you stock this, it can save time running a phone line.

I hope this helps.
