Everybody has their specialty, should have seen me try to put a ceiling fan in the kids room with a 3 way switch configuration. My wife called my electrician friend on me , all he could do was laugh and shake his head! It's a two way street though, he has called me on more than one cable problem.
As far as lightning your right nothing stops it if it hits close enough, we just need to prove we did everything we could.
