We rebuilt one before. Used all factory replacement parts. Did everything right. It lasted 3 hours before the cylinder cracked. Something about putting brand new parts in a wore out glorified jacked-up lawn mower engine. Maybe if there would of been a certified mechanic there it might have turned out different. But it sure does suck dropping 8 c-notes, then having to scrap it and go back to plan A( $3000.00 onan). Not to mention all the down time. You would think that there would be some type of conversion/adapter kit ava. with a new ONAN(brand) generator.
You might want to check oround engine departments that cater for the oil field industry( they use a lot of ONAN(brand) for pumps)
