The subject is: Open Delta Systems - a type of electricity served by the Power Company. Used for street lighting{240vac,80-120amp,single phase}. Like your reg. 220 outlet {2hots,1 gro./neautral}. Except the ground/Neautral is actually the vertical ground from the street light to ground earth. This is what I ve been told so far.(If anyone wants to comment or give better explaination, Please do so.
Anyways I got a call from the former contractor that I used to contract for and was notified that a good long time friend, brother, co/worker of mine had got zapped pretty good today. He's al/rite except for some 2/3 degree on his left arm.
He was doing some telco w/out. Apparently the vertical ground was previously cut/burned in two at ground level. Therefore the street light was utilizing telco as ground thru the common ground. When disconnected the ground, It apparrently used his body to Catv where his left arm was relaxing on.
I thought I would post this in hopes that it might make it a little bit safer for us. You see 2 lines going from pole to pole sevicing street lights and ASSUME{definition- making an ASS ouy of U an ME both} that one is hot and one is neautral/ground. Not the case this time. And like the ole electrician told me a long time ago, " Second guessing electricity is like grabbing a .38caliber and inserting one bullet, spinning the barrel, and sticking it to your head, Now pull the trigger."
