Re: traveling tech

Most of the contracting CATV work force (aside from installs and maintinence) travel to find work. Major builds only last for so long before the work runs out and leaves you wondering what is next.

Before you decide to hit the road for the big $$... you should factor in everything that is involved with contracting and traveling.

If you can profit a third of your gross - you are doing good. In other words, 2000 a week is more like 700 in the long run of things. I am being DEAD honest here.

And you better have a back up plan in place, cause the way things go a lot of times is, you are working about a week before you realize that you have been lied to about the condition of work and you are not able to produce as much as you thought or your hours are counted different (it's funny how many mathemeticians there are out there, when it comes to taking thier slice of your pie). Hopefully, you are able to find out sooner than the "30 days out" whether they were honest about the pay. And then on top of that - thier check is good.

Cover your a$$ because you do not want to be across the country having worked for over a month; paying hotel, food, gas, insurance, maintinence for your stuff, the "new" tools for the "new" job, keeping your bills paid at home, not to mention the travel costs of getting there.... and not get paid, leaving you with nowhere to go.

It does not matter how good of a line the guy feeds you - even if you know him! - check him out!

Best of luck to you(wave)

you need to have enough wisdom to keep from making the wrong decisions but enough courage to make the right ones
