If someone is working by the hour, and you have to wait anyway I can understand.
If you've got nothing else to do and your board, I can understand.
If you pick up the slack while the warehouse person is sick I understand.
My last 4th of July a friend and I framed the second story of a house that had burned off. I didn't even know the people before that day and the job cost me $500. That's charity. A week later we went back and put on the roof when the roofers wouldn't show up. That's helping out.
If youre a piecework employee or sub, and you clean up for kick and do a good job, and someone realizes they don't need a warehouse person, because you can be expected to do the work for free, that's not right.
